Joshua 1:1-2 Commander in Chief
Joshua Bible Study
Today is day 1 of the Joshua study Live Fearlessly from Fresh Life Bible Study series
Today’s reading was from Joshua 1:1-2 AMP:
Now it happened after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant (attendant), saying,
2 “Moses My servant is dead; now, therefore, arise [to take his place], cross over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel.
Where are we?
This chapter opens up with Moses dying and Joshua being given the command to take the people of Israel over the river Jordan and into the promised land.
Moses wasn’t able to cross into the promised land because he disobeyed God by striking the rock instead of speaking to it telling it to produce water. (Num 20:7-13).
Joshua’s leadership role wasn’t just given because “he would do”, he knew and the people of Israel knew because Moses had trained him to be his successor.
Moses died but the people were not lost because of God’s direction for him to inaugurate Joshua in front of everyone they knew who would lead them and they didn’t need to worry.
God always prepares….
Noted Points:
Moses appointed Joshua out of obedience
The people of Israel came out of Egypt
They entered into a covenant with God
They spent 40 years in the wilderness for their disobedience
Now, in obedience and faith, they are preparing to cross the river Jordan into the promised land
It’s never to late to turn back to God…even after 40 years
Name of God
With the day named “commander in chief”, the Lord of Hosts came up in my mind.
The battle is truly the Lord, for He fights every battle on my behalf🌈
