Joshua 1:10-15 Collecting Comrades
Fearlessly Living Bible Study
Today is day 4 of the Joshua study Live Fearlessly from Fresh Life Bible Study series
Today’s reading was from Joshua 1:10-15 AMP:
Joshua Assumes Command
10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 “Go throughout the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to cross this [river] Jordan, to go in to take possession of the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess [as an inheritance].’”
12 To the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, 13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is giving you rest (peace) and will give you this land [east of the Jordan].’ 14 Your wives, your [a]children, and your cattle shall [be allowed to] stay in the land which Moses gave you on this [eastern] side of the Jordan, but you shall go across [the river] before your brothers (the other tribes) armed for battle, all your brave warriors, and you shall help them [conquer and take possession of their land], 15 until the Lord gives your brothers rest, as He has given you, and they also take possession of the land which the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall [be allowed to] return to your own land, and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.”
What’s happening?
Joshua received orders from his commanding officer to take the people of Israel into the promised land. With his goal given, he needed to train his tactile unit to succeed.
With Moses not being able to enter the promised land because of his disobedience, Joshua literally became the living embodiment of Grace.
Chain of Command
This group of verses is very important to daily life.
Order
Everything must be done in order if not it can break. In normal life, we have a chain of command everywhere - school, work, shopping, driving but we fail to put a clear chain of command on our lives.
If it is essential to every aspect of our lives living on earth, why wouldn't we have it for our homes?
At work we have to report to our managers, our managers then report to their supervisor and the supervisor reports to the board or straight to the owner. Any movement outside this line is strongly discouraged, typically they will ask “Did you talk to your manager?”. So to ensure we get the best outcome, we stay true to the chain of command.
In our homes, God is the head, and then….. order is typically broken. In Joshua 1:10-15, God gave Joshua the order, Joshua gave the order to the officers to the people and they carried out the plan. When you come across a problem in your home, who do you usually go to? Your friend? Your sister or brother? Can it be viewed as complaining? Can they solve the problem for you? Is it something that God should be taking care of?
Don’t leave God out of the equation, stay in the chain of command
This helped me revise the chain of command in my life, God is the top that gives me (the head of the house) order and I am to communicate the action plan to my son who would walk aside me. God is a God of order and I am going to be transparent my life is unorderly right now. I’m glad to be given the grace to get it in order.
Continue to walk even when you can’t really see the next step faithful trusting God.
So far, I’m putting it into practice with timing in mind- not mine but God’s. If I walk in the time there won’t be a step, it will be a pit that I created trying to “help God” give me the promises that He told me were to come.
I’m going to continue going to God because He’s next up in command even my son’s requests and needs on his behalf cause even though we both have access to God, together we can go further.
